During old times, the main reason, the principle motivation who leads people to leave their origin areas and move to other places was the economic one. People use to travel further to find more and better resources and, implicitly, a better life. There were special situations…such as the El Dorado one…as a mirage for those who wanted to get richer faster…If before the 1989 Revolution we could not speak about a significant migration flux toward Romania, once the older regime collapsed the national borders become more permissive allowing to foreign citizens who left their own countries to come to Romania trying to find a better life for their families…

Romanian Migration: emancipated villages, without youth!..... Two Romanian sociologists gathered in a collective volume a serial of studies on migration topic, aiming to establish an itinerary of Romanian migrants after 1990 and the effects of their decision to become migrants… The Romanian migration, as well as the Polish one, was the most important, at least as volume, toward the European occident and in a permanent change. It represented the access to a better life, a change in consuming behaviors, a good opportunity for young people from rural areas, who found themselves after the communist regime on an fluctuant and instable labor force market, challenged to find resources for a house and a family……

M0RE THEN 25% from Romanian population believes that immigrants bring a positive influence in Romania British Council and Romanian Immigration office launched in December 8th, 2008, the Migrant Cities Report for Bucharest and the study Population perception on refugees in Romania Migrant Cities is a multinational project, developed in the framework of the Living Together program of British Council. This program promotes the intercultural dialogue in the South East Europe and United Kingdom, by exploring migration problems, demographic changes and their impact over the society. The project was implemented in 5 cities from South – east Europe – Athens, Bucharest, Istanbul, Nicosia and Tirana and 3 cities from UK, Cardiff, Glasgow and Nottingham.

The immigrants who decide to come and work in Romania are generally disadvantaged….they obtain with many difficulties working permit, their salaries are not motivating ones and there are working in unsecured conditions…At least this are the findings from the recent studio “Immigrant in Romania, risks and perspectives” realized by Soros Foundation from Romania….
